What is a GSA Schedule Contract Exactly?

The General Services Administration (GSA) has established the Multiple Award Schedule (MAS) Program to assist Federal Agencies in purchasing products and services.  Through this, the GSA seeks to negotiate and award contracts with vendors on behalf of Government Agencies. These are called GSA Schedule Contracts; they are indefinite delivery, indefinite quantity (IDIQ), long-term contracts containing pre-negotiated prices, delivery terms, warranties, and other terms and conditions.

What can be offered on GSA Schedule Contracts?

GSA awards Schedule Contracts to responsible companies that offer Commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) Products falling within the descriptions of the Schedules. Combined, the GSA Schedules are a comprehensive categorical offering of almost every product and service available. To date, over 11 million commercial services and products can be ordered directly from GSA Schedule Contractors.

How do GSA Schedule Contracts Simplify Procurement?

Acquisitions through GSA Schedule Contracts are issued using full and open competition. Prices have already been deemed fair and reasonable, and Contracts are in compliance with all applicable laws and regulations, thus reducing evaluation cycles.  Purchases can be made directly from your GSA Schedule Contract, eliminating time-consuming responses to complex RFP’s and lengthy negotiations.

Many Benefits to Having a GSA Schedule

One of the most important aspects of having a GSA schedule is that it makes your company a preferred vendor with the government and large corporations like Honeywell, Lockheed Martin, and Boeing just to name a few.

Having this status with the federal government will put you in front of purchasing agents and procurement officers in a way that makes their jobs much easier because they can make streamlining purchases with very little fuss or paperwork. Many times a GSA schedule holder will be the first company presented with opportunities for large government contracts before they go out for open bid.

If your company has a special designation such as being Minority-Owned, Woman-Owned, Veteran-Owned, Disabled or even a Small Business than there are additional projects and set asides that are designated towards these groups. If your company has one of these ratings then it will also open you up to additional contract work from other GSA Schedule holders.

Having a GSA schedule really allows your company to step out from the crowd. Having a GSA Schedule proves that you have had gone through the stringent vetting process required to get onto a GSA Schedule. This is what makes companies so attractive to other companies both large and small that are looking to buy goods and services. These companies know what goods and services they will be receiving from your company, how much exactly they will be paying for your goods and services and when they can expect to receive these items. It makes the buyers life much easier and a much more manageable process which eventually equates to more orders and more revenue for YOU!
